UNCASVILLE, Conn. (August 2, 2018) – The New England Black Wolves announced today that Greg Downing has signed a one-year contract. The team also completed a trade with the Vancouver franchise, acquiring Andrew Suitor for a third round selection in the 2018 NLL Entry Draft and a third-round pick in 2021.
Downing, a 6-foot-1 defenseman, brings 10 seasons of NLL experience to the franchise. He has 86 points on 18 goals and 68 assists in 154 career games while also scooping up 724 loose balls and causing 157 turnovers. In 2018, he had 55 loose balls and 25 caused turnovers while picking up six points (one goal, five assists) in 18 games for Colorado.
“Greg was one of our key free agent targets this off season,” Black Wolves general manager Rich Lisk said. “Greg is a veteran with a great lacrosse IQ and vision who fits perfectly into our defensive system. He is a great addition to the pack and we are very excited to get him into camp.”
Suitor, who spent two seasons in New England earlier in his career, has seen action in 102 career games over seven NLL seasons. He has 104 career points on 54 goals and 50 assists while also picking up 615 loose balls and causing 121 turnovers.
“We are very excited to welcome Andrew back to the pack,” Lisk said. “Andrew is a proven winner and one of the best leaders in the NLL. He is a significant piece to our off season plan.”
Last season, Suitor had 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists with 95 loose ball pickups in 16 games for Vancouver. A 5-foot-11 defender, Suitor joined the Black Wolves via a trade from the then Minnesota Swarm in 2015 and spent the 2016 season with the franchise before being traded to Rochester.
“I am very excited to be back in New England,” Suitor said. “I feel like there is a lot to be proven and I can’t wait for the challenge.”
New England finished 9-9 during the 2017-18 regular season and was eliminated in the East Division semifinals at Rochester. Season tickets for the 2018-19 season are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 844-LAX-WOLF.
