Black Wolves Fall In Overtime At Toronto

TORONTO, ON – Kyle Buchanan scored four times, including the game-tying goal with just over a minute to play, and dished out two assists but it was not enough as the New England Black Wolves (2-4) fell in overtime 13-12 at the Toronto Rock (7-1) on Friday evening.
 
Kevin Buchanan added three goals and three assists while Pat Saunders scored a goal while dishing out four assists in the loss for New England. Kevin Buchanan now leads the team in points at 31 with 12 goals and 19 assists on the year. After his four goals tonight, Kyle Buchanan leads the Black Wolves with 13 on the season.
 
Toronto was led by Brett Hickey with four goals, while Kevin Ross, Rob Hellyer, Stephan Leblanc and Josh Sanderson had two goals apiece. Hellyer added six assists in the Rock victory while Sanderson had five helpers.
 
The Rock opened up a quick 2-0 lead in the first 5:47 of play, but goals by Kyle Buchanan and Kevin Buchanan led to a tie score at the end of the first quarter.
 
Toronto scored two more quick goals to open the second quarter, but the Black Wolves stormed back with a goal from Mike Diehl, two by Kyle Buchanan and one from Kevin Buchanan to lead 6-4 at halftime. It was Diehl’s first goal of the season.
 
New England opened up a 10-5 advantage with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, but Toronto cut the advantage to 10-7 to close out the frame.

The Rock dominated the fourth quarter, storming back to take a 12-11 advantage with just 3:30 remaining. Kyle Buchanan tied it up with an assist from Bill O’Brien with just over a minute remaining to send the game to overtime.

Just 40 seconds into extra time, Sanderson picked up his second goal of the game to give the Rock the victory.
 
For the Black Wolves, Evan Kirk took the loss in goal, giving up 13 goals while saving 33 shots. Nick Rose earned the win for Toronto after entering the game in the third quarter. He had 21 saves, including 12 in the fourth quarter, for the Rock.
 
The Black Wolves return to action on Sunday, February 22nd, against the Colorado Mammoth at Mohegan Sun Arena. Game time is 1:00 pm.
