Black Wolves Meet Knighthawks And Bandits In Preseason Matchups

The New England Black Wolves dropped two preseason games on Saturday, falling 14-7 to the Rochester Knighthawks and 12-10 to the Buffalo Bandits at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

Veteran forward Kevin Buchanan saw limited minutes in the first game and fellow lineup stalwarts Kyle Buchanan, Kevin Crowley, Shawn Evans and Brett Manney did not play at all in either game in order to give newer players game minutes.

“It was a great day for us to evaluate the guys we had in camp,” Black Wolves General Manager Rich Lisk said. “We came out on the losing end of both games but I don’t consider us being on the losing end because we came here to evaluate the young guys and they all really stepped up.”

Against Rochester, Reilly O’Connor scored two goals while Mark Cockerton, Jake Froccaro, Jay Thorimbert, Jeff Swift and Cam Milligan each found the back of the net twice. Froccaro added two more goals in the nightcap against Buffalo, giving him a hat trick on the day. Also with a hat trick was Nick Mariano, who scored three consecutive goals during the loss to the Bandits. They were joined on the score sheet in that game by Seth Oakes with two goals and JP Kealey, Martin Bowes and Swift with one each.

“This is my sixth season with the team and this is the toughest camp we’ve ever had to evaluate,” Lisk said. “There will be a lot of tough decisions in the next couple of days…I want to thank Rochester and Buffalo for inviting us to come here. They played well and gave us the chance to evaluate our talent. That’s what training camp is all about.”

New England will close out preseason play on Saturday, November 25th against the Toronto Rock at the Toronto Rock Athletic Center in Oakville, Ont.
