Black Wolves Sign Three

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (July 13, 2019) – The New England Black Wolves announced today that Colton Watkinson, Nick Chaykowsky and Mackenzie Mitchell have been signed to two-year contracts.

Per team policy, no terms were released.

A member of the 2018 NLL All-Rookie Team, Watkinson played in all 18 games for the Black Wolves during the 2018-19 season, scoring 13 points on eight goals and five assists. The defenseman also had 56 loose ball pickups and nine caused turnovers last season.

“Colton is a young cornerstone of our defense,” Black Wolves general manager Rich Lisk said. “He is progressing exactly the way we believed he would. You can see his play maturing in every game. He brings extreme athleticism, speed and grit to the back end.  Colton exemplifies everything we want in a player on and off the floor. We are excited to have him back for the next two years.”

In his second season with the Black Wolves, Chaykowsky played in 16 games, scoring nine points on two goals and seven assists. The 6-foot-2 defenseman also scooped up 60 loose balls.

“Nick is one of our young core guys,” Lisk said. “This is the second year we protected Nick in the expansion draft and for good reason. He’s a player that fits the mold we want, big, strong, athletic, runs the floor and high lax IQ. He has all the tolls to be one of the top defenders in the league. We have only seen the beginning and I am excited not just for this year, but to witness his future.”

Mitchell, who joined New England via trade in February from Vancouver, saw action in two games for the Black Wolves. He had one assist and four loose ball pickups with the team and three assists and 20 loose balls in eight total games on the season.

“Mack is a big, strong, left handed defenseman that can run the floor with a great IQ,” Lisk said. “Those are hard to find.  I am very excited to have Mack with us right from the beginning this season.”
