Black Wolves Stop Mammoth For Third Straight Win

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Tyler Digby scored a season-high four goals to go along with two assists and Callum Crawford added 11 points as the New England Black Wolves defeated the Colorado Mammoth 17-11 on Sunday afternoon.

 

Reilly O’Connor had seven points on one goal and six assists while Stephan Leblanc added a goal and five assists in the win for the Black Wolves (7-4).

 

Leblanc got the scoring started just 36 seconds into play to put the Black Wolves up 1-0. O’Connor put New England up 2-0 five minutes later. Colorado (3-6) picked up their first goal, by Ryan Lee, 2:55 into play in the second. The Black Wolves picked up two more goals over the next four minutes, one by Digby and another by Crawford before the Mammoth rattled off three in a row to tie the score at 4-4 with 3:31 to play in the half. Digby found the back of the net with 1:54 to play to put New England up 5-4 at the half.

 

The Mammoth got things started right away in the third, scoring just 51 seconds into the quarter, to tie the game at 5-5. The two teams traded goals over the next two minutes, with Ryan Fournier finding the back of the net for New England and Lee for Colorado, before the Black Wolves went up 8-6 with 9:35 to play in the frame on goals by Digby and Crawford. David Brock put New England up by three, 9-6, with 7:59 to play in the third but the Mammoth answered just 25 seconds later on a goal by Jacob Ruest and again with a goal from Brent Adams to make it 9-8 with 6:49 left.

 

Dave Emala put New England back up by two with 6:13 to play in the frame before Colorado answered with a goal by Eli McLaughlin with 3:30 to go in the quarter to put the score at 10-9. Jackson Nishimura scored his second goal of the season in transition with 1:30 left to give New England a 11-9 advantage and Digby picked up his fourth of the night with 47.9 seconds left to put the score at 12-9 at the end of three.

 

After Colorado opened the scoring 2:49 into the fourth, Colton Watkinson scored in transition with 8:02 to play to put the Black Wolves up 13-10. Crawford picked up his third of the night with 4:27 to play and Dereck Downs found the back of the net with 3:43 to go to give New England a 15-10 lead.  Colorado answered just over two minutes later but Watkinson and Crawford each found the back of the net in the closing 1:10 to ice the victory for New England.

 

Doug Jamieson had a career-high 49 saves in the win for the Black Wolves. McLaughlin had four goals and three assists while Lee had two goals and four assists for the Mammoth in the loss.

 

The Black Wolves will be in action next on March 16 at Vancouver. Game time is set for 10 p.m. ET.
