Black Wolves Stopped By The Bandits

Buffalo — Pat Saunders scored two goals in the first 3:46 of the game, but the host Buffalo Bandits answered with 13 of the next 14 goals on the way to a 20-10 victory over the New England Black Wolves in the season finale for both teams Saturday night at the First Niagara Center.

It was the sixth straight loss for the Black Wolves, who finished 4-14.

The Bandits broke the game open with a string of 10 unanswered goals in an outburst that began with 6:09 left in the first quarter when Mitch Jones scored the first of his four goals. Buffalo scored the first seven goals of the second quarter on the way to a 12-4 halftime lead.

New England did not seriously threaten the rest of the way.

Saunders capped his best NLL season with a career-high five goals while Garrett Billings had a season-high seven assists for the Black Wolves.

Ryan Benesch led Buffalo with three goals and nine assists while Alexander-Kedoh Hill (four goals, four assists), John Tavares (four goals, one assist) and Mark Steenhuis (eight assists) led the Buffalo attack while goalie Anthony Cosmo made 36 saves.
