Black Wolves Top Knighthawks To Complete Sweep

Rochester, NY – One night after topping Rochester at home, the New England Black Wolves defeated the Knighthawks 10-8 at Blue Cross Arena on Saturday evening to complete the weekend sweep in a battle of Eastern Conference foes.
 
Shawn Evans paced the Black Wolves (7-4) with a hat trick and four assists for seven points. Jordan Hall had six points on two goals and four assists while Kevin Crowley added two goals and three assists for New England. Dan Dawson and Brad Self each had two goals in the loss for the Knighthawks (6-7).
 
The Black Wolves got things started with a power play goal from Hall 4:09 into play. Evans increased the lead to 2-0 with a breakaway goal 7:48 into the game. The reigning NLL MVP picked up his second of the night on the power play just 23 seconds into the second quarter to put New England up 3-0. Rochester rattled off four goals to take a 4-3 advantage with five minutes remaining in the first half.
 
However, Evans then picked up his third to tie the game at four all and Sheldon Burns scored his sixth goal of the season to give the Black Wolves a 5-4 advantage heading into the break.
 
The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair, as the two teams traded goals throughout. Brad Self picked up a goal 1:27 into the frame to tie the score at 5-5, but the Black Wolves scored two in a row, one by Crowley and one by Hall, to take a 7-5 lead with 8:02 left in the third. The Knighthawks scored twice more, in a span of 42 seconds, to tie the game at 7-7.
 
Pat Saunders put the Black Wolves back up 8-7 just 43 seconds into the fourth off a pass from Hall. Dawson connected on his second goal of the night for Rochester to tie it at 8-8 with 5:36 remaining, but Crowley scored a minute and a half later to put New England back up one. With 21 seconds left to play, Saunders notched his second of the night to put the Black Wolves ahead 10-8 and close out the win.
 
In goal, Evan Kirk had 45 saves for New England to earn the victory. Kyle Buchanan had a season-high five assists in the win. In addition to his two goals, Saunders had an assist while Derek Suddons also recorded a helper for the Black Wolves.
 
New England will be in action next on Saturday, April 2nd when they take on the Colorado Mammoth at Mohegan Sun Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
