PHILIDELPHIA, PA. (September 17, 2019) – With their highest pick in the NLL Draft since 2011, the New England Black Wolves selected Andrew Kew with the 3rdoverall pick at the league’s draft event at Xfinity Live! in Philadelphia.
Kew joins the Black Wolves following a decorated career at the University of Tampa. The 6-3 forward was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and earned All-American USILA First Team selection.
A native of Oakville, Ontario Kew amassed 259 goals and 75 assists at Tampa. He also recorded 91 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers. For four consecutive years, Kew led the team in goals scored.
“We are extremely excited to add Andrew Kew to our offense. When we traded for this pick, last year, we targeted offense and Andrew is a premier offensive threat,” general manager Rich Lisk said. “We all know Andrew can put the ball in the back of the net, but what separates him from other players is his athleticism and ability to get open, which when you combine that with his shooting ability is special. This is a player that we haven’t had here in New England and now we do and that is very exciting.”
This past May, Kew played for the Oakville Rock of the Major Series Lacrosse League. In his rookie campaign, he ranked first on the team in goals (29) and tied for first in assists (28).
New England will also have the 17th pick, which is the team’s final selection in the first round. Earlier this week, the Black Wolves exchanged their 24th overall pick, Ryan Fournier and Miles Jones to the New York Riptide for Jordan Durston.
The Black Wolves also have selections 61, 70 and 83.
Tickets for the 2019-20 season are on sale now and start at $19 per game. The Black Wolves home opener is set for Friday, Dec. 27 vs. the New York Riptide at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by visiting blackwolves.com or calling 844-LAX-WOLF.
