Watkinson Named To All-Rookie Team

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (August 8, 2018) – The National Lacrosse League announced today that Black Wolves transition player Colton Watkinson has been named to the All-Rookie Team.

Watkinson, selected seventh overall in the 2017 NLL Entry Draft for the Black Wolves, had 15 points on seven goals and with assists in 17 games for New England in his first season. He also scooped up 69 loose balls and caused 16 turnovers.

“We are so proud of what Colton accomplished in his rookie season not just on the floor but off it also,” Black Wolves general manager Rich Lisk said. “Colton embodies what the New England Black Wolves want from our players.  I believe that this is just the beginning for Colton and we are lucky to have a front row seat as his career develops.”

Prior to joining the Black Wolves, Watkinson had a standout collegiate career at Limestone College, winning three NCAA Division II titles. He also earned USILA/Nike First Team All-American honors and was selected the Lt. J.G. Donald MacLaughlin Jr. Award as the Most Outstanding Midfielder as a senior in 2017.

“It’s an honor,” Watkinson said. “It’s a stepping stone for where I want to be and what I want to accomplish in the league. It’s great to see, but only the start for me.”

Joining Watkinson on the All-Rookie Team are Josh Byrne of the Buffalo Bandits, Zach Currier of the Calgary Roughnecks and Eric Fannell, Austin Shanks and Jake Withers of the Rochester Knighthawks.

New England finished 9-9 during the 2017-18 regular season and was eliminated in the East Division semifinals at Rochester. Season tickets for the 2018-19 season are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 844-LAX-WOLF.
